1st day. Airport – Kurunegala – rural accommodation in Hiripitiya

Reception at the Bandaranaike International Airport by our representative and transfer to Kurunegala.

The first stop in Kurunegala will be for a walk around the lake, then we will visit a secret temple of the first century AD. Reaching this enclave is already a beautiful excursion in itself.

Transfer to a coconut plantation.

Accommodation in Hiripitiya (Kurunegala)

2nd day. Hiripitiya: chance to experience life on a local farm learning how rice fields and coconut palms are cultivated.

This will be a relaxed way to get to know this unknown part of the country, living in a totally rural environment.

It is a unique experience, far from all the tourist circuits that only our agency offers.

It is an exceptional opportunity to learn about the lives of local farmers, living together with them.

Around the farm you can walk peacefully between rice fields and coconut palms.

You can also take an excursion to see the lakes where, in addition to the exuberant flora and fauna, you will see how the smiling Sri Lankan get wet and play among the water lilies.

From this farm / plantation you will also go to the nearest village you will know the daily activities of the market, shops, post office and hospital …

3rd day. Hiripitiya: Arankele and participate in a traditional folk show.

This day we will do two different activities near the farm, we will visit an ancient monastery in Arankele dated in the 6th century AD. The transfer to Arankele will be by bicycle, cycling through woods renowned for it’s incredible beauty and animal life.

In the afternoon we will attend a popular and traditional form of entertainment within the local community. It is a social act where the whole neighbourhood meets to play local musical instruments and perform a small play.

This type of act is voluntary by the neighbourhood and is therefore subject to availability.

4th day. Kurunegala – Sigiriya Rock – Sigiriya

Transfer to the town of Sigiriya to visit the rock (S.V DC)

Sigiriya’s fortress is a practically rectangular 360-degree rock that houses at the top the ruins of a complex of noble palaces, considered one of the 8 wonders of the ancient world.

This work of King Kassapa dates back to the fifth century AD. It is hiding a story of betrayals and revenge. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Sigiriya is one of the main tourist attractions of Sri Lanka.

Rest of the day to enjoy the swimming pool at the hotel and its surroundings.

5th day. Sigiriya – Golden Temple of Dambulla, Spice Garden – Kandy: Unawatakale Reserve

In the morning we will visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla (1st century AD)

The Golden Temple of Dambulla consists of a large cave with different rooms converted over time.

In its interior one can admire 153 Buddha statues, statues of the Sri Lankan kings and some Hindu deities, as well as the murals that cover the totality of the walls and ceilings of the cave.

The story of Dambulla goes back to the year I AD and had its greatest splendour in the twelfth century. Still the Temple continues active, we will have the opportunity to observe the Sri Lankan Buddhists offering flowers, incense and oil lamps.

After having lunch we will get to know all the secrets of the Spice Garden. In this visit we will learn of the plants and trees with which produce the different spices and we will discover their use in the kitchen and in the ancient natural medicine of Ayurveda.

Transfer to the capital of the mountains in Kandy.

In the afternoon, we will go for a walk in the Unawatakale Reserve. This visit is about an hour walk, where you can admire, above all, tall trees and tropical vegetation that amazes everyone. The origin of this wood was for the delight of the Royal Court and to provide fuel (wood), for the kitchens. Nowadays it is a walking place for the inhabitants of Kandy, due to its location in the city centre.

6th day. Excursion in the Hantana’s tea plantation

We will dedicate this day for a hike in Hantana, which are the mountains that surround the south of Kandy. On this occasion we will have the opportunity to learn about the tea fields of this region. Contemplating the nearby rice fields we will see how people that harvest the plantation live and work. Hantana in Sinhalese means seven peaks.

Rest of the day a walk around the city and the lake surrounding the Temple of the Tooth and the market …

Accommodation in Kandy

7th day. Kandy – Ramboda Waterfalls – Tea Factory – Nuwara Eliya Train to Ella

On the way to the mountain station of Nuwara Eliya (1868mt.). we will observe tea plantations, we will stop at the Ramboda waterfalls and visit the tea factory.

Travel by train from Nanu Oya Nuwara Eliya’s station to Ella, 3 hours of winding ride between mountains covered with tea and high woods.

8th day. Ella – Tissahamaragama: Sithulpawwa

Transfer to Tissahamaragama to visit Sithulpawwa.

To get to this enclave we have to cross the Yala National Park.

Its location is very special because it is located on a hill where it is possible to admire the whole National Park.

In this ancient Buddhist monastery which dates back more than 2000 years, people come on pilgrimage from all over the island and this has a very special meaning for the locals.

On many occasions, whilst walking this part of the park we will have the opportunity to observe many of the local animals.

9th day. Tissa – Galle Fortress – Unawatuna

Transfer to the Galle Fort.

Galle is the third most important city after Colombo and Kandy.

It was a Portuguese city in the sixteenth century and Dutch in the eighteenth century, a moment of maximum splendour; also the British lived here in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

All these colonisers have left their mark, which is why it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Galle Fortress is the country’s most preserved colonial historic centre, where Buddhist, Muslim, Catholic and Hindu coexist in perfect harmony. It is a pleasure to get lost in its streets and squares.

Transfer to the Unawatuna hotel.

Accommodation in Unawatuna

10th day. Unawatuna – Colombo – Airport

Transfer to Colombo, the capital, to carry out a retrospective visit: Independence Square, walk in Galle Face and around the colonial area of the Colombo Fortress.

Transfer to the Bandaranaike International Airport at the time agreed, considering that you have to arrive 3 hours before the departure of your flight
