In the morning we will visit one of the old countries capital, Polonnaruwa (XI-XIII).
Founded in the X century AD, Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka and remained active until the 13th century.
They are highlighted for their beauty and grandeur, the statues of Buddha and that of the King Parakrama carved in the rock. Followed by an interesting visit to the University of Alahana Pirivena.
In the “Polonnaruwa era” agriculture prospered, along with commerce, teaching and healthcare. Consequently, this era is considered the greatest in the history of this country.
In the afternoon we will take a safari in the Minneriya National Park, famous for the large herds of elephants that inhabit it.
Sometimes you can see up to 300 elephants together.

In the morning we will visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla(I AD).
The Golden Temple of Dambulla consists of a large cave with different converted environments into temples.
In its interior you can admire 153 statues of Buddha, some statues of the Sri Lanka Kings and some Hindu gods, and the murals that cover the walls and ceilings of the cave.
The story of Dambulla goes back to the year I AC and had its greatest splendour in the twelfth century.
Even today the temple is still active, we will have the opportunity to observe the Sri Lankan Buddhists offering flowers, incense and oil lamps.
In the afternoon we will visit the Sigiriya Rock ( V century AD)
Sigiriya’s fortress is a rock with a substantially rectangular shape at 360 meters above sea level.
At its peak are the ruins of an ancient complex of palaces, it is considered one of the 8 wonders of the ancient world.
This work of King Kassapa dates back to the fifth century AD. and hides a story of betrayal and revenge.
UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sigiriya is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Sri Lanka.

After breakfast we will learn all the secrets of a spice garden. In this visit we will have the opportunity to see the plants and trees in which the different spices are grown and learn of their uses in cooking and in Ayurvedic medicine.
In particular we will know the vanilla, cocoa, cardamom, pepper, ginger, lemongrass, nutmeg.
Transfer to Kandy, the capital of the mountains.
In this sacred place we find the relic of the tooth of the Buddha.
Since ancient times, this heirloom played an important role in Sri Lanka’s life, as it was believed that those who possessed it had power.
Again we will see how Sri Lankan Buddhists gather in this temple with flowers and offerings to worship Buddha.
For the rest of the afternoon we will take a stroll though the city and the lake surrounding the Temple of the Tooth, the market. …
Accommodation in Kandy
An early morning walk in the Udawattakele reserve.
This visit takes a couple of hours in which we can admire the towering trees and tropical vegetation that amazes everyone, residents and tourists alike.
The origin of this forest was for the joy of the Royal Court and for fuel (wood), for the kitchens.
Even today it is a place of relaxation for the inhabitants of Kandy, located in the heart of the city.
The Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya also known as the Royal Gardens, their origins go back to the fourteenth century.
This vast expanse of trees and plants is one of the best travel sites in Sri Lanka.
We will admire the ancient trees and palms with the strangest shapes, Ayurvedic plants and the famous orchid collection.
This vast area of 60 hectares is a place of relaxation and leisure for the Sri Lankans where they come to stroll and spend the day with their loved ones.

On the way to the mountain station of Nuwara Eliya (1,868 mt.), we will admire the vast tea plantations, we will stop at the Ramboda waterfalls and visit a tea factory.
In Nuwara Eliya, little England, so called by British settlers, here we can see the old buildings and take in the atmosphere of that time.
An example is the Golf Club or Club Hill.
Over 3 hours of winding road through the mountains and the forest, a time to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery.
The railway network in Sri Lanka started operating in 1968 and still runs perfectly preserving the old trains of the time.

A visit to Ella Gap to enjoy the wonderful view of this chain of mountains that surround Ella.
If not too tired, we can continue on to the Little Adam’s Peak.
It is a simple climb bordering the tea fields, to enjoy the immensity of the mountains on this part of the island.
The other option is to have the day off to take advantage of the cool temperatures of this area.

The Yala National Park is the most visited Nature Reserve in the country and the second in extension.
You can see deer, pelicans, wild boars, crocodiles, magpies, wild buffaloes, kingfishers, elephants, royal peacocks, bears … and with a little luck, even the elusive leopard.

Galle is the third most important city after Colombo and Kandy.
It was a Portuguese city in the 16th and 18th century, a moment of maximum apogee; even the British lived there in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
All these colonisers left their mark, which is why it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Galle Fort is the best preserved colonial historical centre in the country, where Buddhists, Muslims, Catholics and Hindus live together in perfect harmony.
It is a pleasure to get lost in its shady colonial streets and squares.
