Pidurangala Rock

The Pidurangala Rock located adjacent to Sigiriya

offers equally epic views of the surrounding area, a historic cave complex in its own right, one tenth of the crowd and the most incredible view overlooking the famous Sigiriya Rock.

Panoramic View Pidurangala

Climbing the rock and admiring the stunning sunrise has become a ‘must’ when visiting Sri Lanka.

Be amazed as the sun lights up misty forests, lakes and villages, flooding the vast central landscapes of Sri Lanka with golden undertones.

At the base of the Pidurangala rock, you will find Pidurangala Sigiri Rajamaha Viharaya, which is a white temple.

External Wall Pidurangala Temple

Go through the temple by paying the $ 3 USD entrance fee

Halfway through the excursion, you will reach the Temple of Pidurangala, which takes you back in time even if it is not able to compete with the history of the Rocca di Sigiriya.

The Royal Cave Temple only survived with a few remains.

A huge reclining Buddha lies inside the temple.

A rock wall is still standing to show the foundations of what was once a rock temple.

After reaching the temple, there are only 5-10 minutes of trekking left.

However, this part of the path includes some boulders.

Although it may seem easy to many, it may be a little difficult for some.

There are no dangerous sections just some boulders, which require a big step forward.

Climbing tips

WEAR SUITABLE SHOES, BRING WATER

The excursion to the Pidurangala rock is not for the faint of heart and adding the humidity and warmth of Sri Lanka, can make this excursion, about half an hour, rather demanding for the unprepared.

WATER | Bring your bottle of water for the excursion (say NO to plastic)

TREKKING BOOTS / GYMNASTIC SHOES | Although the hike is not too long, we strongly recommend wearing a pair of hiking boots or some sneakers

CAMERA | The views at the top of Pidurangala are completely unstable, so be sure to pack your camera to take photos

SARONG | Since entry into Pidurangala is via a Buddhist temple, you will need to cover your shoulders and knees when you pass it

To avoid problems, bring a sarong / something to cover yourself with or wear clothes that cover key areas

TORCH | If you are hiking at dawn or going down after sunset, we recommend you bring a torch to guide the way

Sri Lanka is indeed the perfect place for children and for people who like animals and nature.

This country is incredibly green.

It is impossible not to find elephant herds on safari or even on the same road traveling.
It is also very easy to see leopards, macaques and other types of monkeys, giant squirrels, jackals, etc. etc

Furthermore, walking with children and adults through the Peradeniya Botanical Garden is a delight. Along with the giant trees and millions of plants, we will also find monkeys and other animals in this immense place.
