This route is designed for intrepid travellers who do not want to meet another tourist during their entire trip. The vast majority of the sights on this 20-day itinerary are unknown to many Sri Lankans. At least to Western tourists.
Day 1. Airport - Negambo city
(Approximate transfer duration: 20 minutes)
Meet and greet at Bandaranaike International Airport by our driver/guide and transfer to the hotel in Negambo, a town very close to the airport.
Rest of the day at the hotel. If you want, in this coastal town you can walk along the beach where there are different food stalls, bars, shops… or go and see how they fish in the traditional way in the sea in this part of the country. It is also very interesting to see the fishing market.
Day 2. Negambo - Kurunegala - Rural Village - Maho
(Negombo - Kurunegala - Maho: approximate duration: 2.5 hrs)
We will stop for a while in Kurunegala, the town between Negambo and the next hotel. In this small town there is a lively lake, swings with Sri Lankan children, families strolling and eating ice cream at street kiosks.
Afterwards we will go to a village in the area; it is a farming village where we will see how everyday life is carried out.
But before and on the way we will stop at a Temple just to contemplate the views. The beautiful thing about this place is the path and the views of the mountain and the city. Afterwards, if it is market day, we will visit the market. And in any case, we will see the school, the hospital, the post office, etc.
Day 2. Negambo - Kurunegala - Rural Village - Maho
(Maho - Willpattu: Approximate duration: 2.5 hrs)
Transfer to the hotel near Wilpattu NP. From the hotel we will take a pleasant boat ride along the Uppu Aru River where, above all, birds are seen. Wilpattu is famous for the large number and variety of birds that can be seen.
Sri Lanka has more than 500 recorded species of birds, of which 34 are endemic.
Day 4 Eluwankulama - Safari NP Wilpattu Full day - Eluwankulama
(Eluwankulama - Wilpattu National Park Entrance: 1.5 hours)
The activity of the day will be, nothing more and nothing less, than a Safari in the Wilpattu National Park. It is the largest NP in Sri Lanka.
The peculiarity of this national park is the existence of the “Villus”, lakes in the local language, around 205. In this park you can see, in addition to the leopard, elephants, wild buffalos, bears, deer, different types of heron, ducks and endemic birds such as the jungle fowl.
Among the reptiles we can find crocodiles, water monitors and different types of turtles.
Day 5 Eluwankulama - Pidurangala - Sigiriya locality
(Eluwankulama - Pidurangala: 3.5 hours)
From Pidurangala Rock you can see Sigiriya Rock from another perspective. In Pidurangala there is a temple that was donated by King Kassapa to Buddhist monks in compensation for their transfer from Sigiriya Fortress to Pidurangala to do their meditations.
Day 6 Sigiriya - Sigiriya Rock - Minneriya Safari - Optional: Rural Village - Sigiriya
(Approximate duration Sigiriya - Minneriya: 30 min.)
Sigiriya Rock (5th century AD) is a place of extraordinary beauty and a perfect visit for children. Often, other Sri Lankan children visit this World Heritage monument with their school or families.
No one, whether local or foreign, is left indifferent by the sight of this enormous rock on a vast plain for several kilometres around.
In the afternoon we will go on a safari in the Minneriya National Park, famous for the large herds of elephants that live there. Everyone is amazed to see so many elephants together drinking, grazing, playing… It is a unique experience for both children and parents!
If you want, you can also do a fun activity especially for the little ones: the rural village. To get to this place, we will take a fun tuk-tuk and cross a lake in a canoe. We will return riding on an ox-drawn cart as was done until very recently. In addition, in this small village we will learn how they cook and they will even invite us to a small tasting of Sri Lankan food.
Day 7. Sigiriya - Dambulla Golden Temple - Matale Hindu Temple - Kandy: Udawatakale Reserve
(Sigiriya - Kandy: 2.5 hours)
In the morning we will visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla (1st century BC)
The Golden Temple (1st century BC) is embedded in a large cave. You can see 153 statues of Buddha, Buddhists making their offerings, friendly macaques, etc. In addition, the beauty of the rice fields, coconut trees and mountains that can be seen from there. It is a short but important visit.
Next we will see, only from the outside, the Sri Muthumariamman Hindu Temple in Matale (1852). Hindu temples are so different from Buddhist temples! The latter are immaculately white. On the other hand, Hindu temples are of thousands of colours, each one more striking than the last! Thousands of figures decorate these “kovils” or Hindu temples.
Transfer to Kandy, the capital of the mountains. Kandy was the last capital of the Kings of Sri Lanka and is the second most important city after Colombo.
Once in Kandy we will take a walk in the Udawattakele Reserve where you can see, above all, very tall trees and tropical vegetation that amazes everyone, locals and tourists. You can easily see different types of birds such as parakeets or herons. You can also see deer, wild cats, macaques, mouse deer (dwarf), squirrel, mongoose, giant flying squirrel…
Day 8. Kandy - Lankatilekka Temple - Peradeniya Royal Gardens - Kandy
(Kandy - Lankatilekka: 45 min. - Lankatilekka - Peradeniya: 30 min; Peradeniya - Kandy: 20 minutes)
This is a temple that we call “alternative” because it has a slightly more oriental architecture. To get to this curious temple, you have to pass through beautiful rice fields, small villages and various plantations. The journey alone is worth it.
The next visit will be the Royal Garden of Peradeniya. This is a green place full of fantastic trees and amazing plants where Sri Lankans come to spend their holidays with their children, family and friends. Here they eat, play and relax. It is one of the best visits in the country and is very suitable for a family trip.
Day 9. Kandy - Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage - free in Kandy city
(Kandy - Pinnawela: 1.15 )
At the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage everyone will be delighted to see Sri Lanka’s most beloved animal. This centre was created to house injured or orphaned elephants found in the jungle. It is impressive to see dozens of elephants bathing in the river!
The next visit will be to walk freely around the city, the lake surrounding the Temple of the Tooth, the market, among others.
Day 10. Kandy: Tea field excursion - free
(Kandy - Hanthana: 30 min)
Today you can take a tour of the tea fields in Hanthana. We will walk to see the plantations, the nursery where the children of the tea pickers are kept, etc. It is an area that is very little exploited by tourists and will not leave anyone indifferent.
Rest of the day free to relax in the hotel pool or walk around the city.
Day 11. Kandy - Ramboda Falls - Tea Factory - Nuwara Eliya to Bandarawella Train
(Kandy - Nuwara Eliya: 2.5 hours + train)
On the way to the hill station of Nuwara Eliya (2,000 m) we will see extensive tea plantations and stop for a moment to see the Ramboda waterfalls.
We will then stop at a tea factory. If you want to learn how the famous Ceylon tea is processed, be sure to visit this factory where they will explain to you how the delicate tea leaves are processed.
In the afternoon we will take a walk around Lake Gregory and through the city to see the buildings with British influence.
The last activity of the day will be the train ride from Nanu Oya station in Nuwara Eliya to Bandarawella. It is more than 3 hours of a winding road between the tea hills and tall forest.

Day 12 Bandarawela - Horton Plains National Park - Bandarawela
(Bandarawela to Horton plain 1.5 hrs)
We will spend a large part of the day at Horton Plains National Park. This natural park is a large plain covered with grasslands. The visit consists of a walk along a trail of about 9 kilometers (about 4 hours walking) where you can see the famous cliff at the end of the world, the noisy Baker Falls and the enormous Sambar Deer.
Day 13. Bandarawella - Buduruwagala - Tissa Lake - Tissa hotel
(Bandarawella - Buduruwagala: 1 hour; Buduruwagala - Tissa: 1.15 hours)
We will visit Buduruwagala, an ancient Buddhist temple from the 10th century, where we will find 7 statues of Buddha and Buddha aspirants carved from the rock itself.
Transfer to Tissamaharama. Once you have checked in, it is very interesting to walk around Lake Tissa where local fishermen often go with their canoes.
Day 14. Full day safari to Yala National Park
(Tissa - Yala: 40 min)
Today we will spend the whole day on a safari in Yala National Park.
Yala National Park is home to the largest concentration of leopards in the world, as they have no predators. In addition, you can see many elephants, crocodiles, buffalos, black bears and many more animals.
Day 15. Tissa - Turtle farm - Mirissa Beach
(Tissa - Galle: 2 hours)
Transfer to Mirissa, the place where the whale watching boats depart.
On the way we will visit a turtle farm. In Ceylon we have 4 species of sea turtles: the green, Loggerhead, Hawksbill and Olive Ridley.
Day 16. Mirissa: free beach - Optional: whale watching
(transfers less than 20 min.)
Free day to enjoy Mirissa beach for a walk along the beach.
This day we could leave very early in the morning to see the blue whales, sperm whales, Bryde’s whales and fin whales that migrate through the south of Sri Lanka. It is also possible to see several species of dolphins. These cetaceans migrate from the beginning of November to the end of April each year.

From this day onwards there are no car and driver services, as these are days to relax on the beach and nothing else. On the last day a driver will come to take you to the airport.

Day 20. Mirissa - Galle Fort - Airport
(Mirissa - Galle: 1 hour; Galle Fort - Airport: 2 hours)
Galle Fort is a walled city bordering the sea and is the best preserved colonial historical centre in the country. It is undoubtedly the most beautiful city in Sri Lanka. It is an ideal city for strolling under the shade of trees or by the sea.
Transfer to the airport at the agreed time. At Bandaranaike International Airport you must be 3 hours before your flight departure.

- The payment method in EUROS is 10% or 20% (depending on whether it is low or high season) by bank transfer to a bank account in Spain.

Cancellation policy:
- Up to 30 days before the trip, 100% of the deposit is returned if the trip is cancelled.
Between 29 days before and 15 days before the start of the trip there is a penalty of 50% of the deposit amount. - Cancellations made within 14 days before the trip do not have a refund of the deposit.
